Job Overview
We are seeking a Data Engineer with 5 years of experience and strong expertise in the Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools suite to help build a modern data foundation as we transition from a legacy system to a cloud-based ecosystem. This role will focus on building and supporting the final build out and continued development of an enterprise SQL Server Database.
In the immediate term, this individual will assist in building a data staging layer, enterprise data warehouse, and functional data marts as the organization migrates from a legacy, in-house database to a moder ecosystem of cloud enabled applications. Through the evolution, this role will support the build of enterprise data pipelines, databases, and reporting structures. The ideal candidate has hands on experience with SSIS, T-SQL, ETL development, and data modeling, and is comfortable working across both technical and business teams.
Experience with SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), Power BI, and Power Query is a plus
Responsibilities
- Data Engineering & Warehouse Development
- Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines using Microsoft SQL Server tooling (SSIS, SSAS, etc.)
- Support the design and development of an Enterprise Data Warehouse and downstream functional data marts
- Develop and optimize database structures, including 3NF and dimensional (star schema) models
- Ensure data quality, security, and governance best practices are implemented
- Create and maintain database documentation, including data models and entity relationship
- diagrams (ERDs)
- Reporting & Analytics Enablement
- Partner with business and cross-functional teams to understand reporting and data
- requirements
- Deliver data models and schemas to support reporting and analytics use cases
- Support and/or develop dashboards and reporting solutions using Power BI
- Standardize data definitions, metrics, and business logic across the organization
Requirements
- 5 years of experience in Data Engineering or a related role
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server (database development and administration)
- Hands-on experience with SSIS and ETL pipeline development
- Solid understanding of data modeling (3NF, dimensional modeling, star schemas)
- Experience translating business requirements into technical data solutions
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Experience working in small teams supporting enterprise-wide data need
Nice-to-have skills
- Experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance or financial services
- Advanced T-SQL skills, including stored procedures, views, and performance tuning
- Experience with Power BI (development, administration, and enterprise deployment)
- Exposure to Power Query and modern data transformation tools
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric or cloud-based data platforms (Azure preferred)
- Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data cataloging
- Strong Excel skills
Pay: $115,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
